Oracle Application Express (APEX) 19.1 is now generally available! APEX enables you to develop, design and deploy beautiful, responsive, data-driven desktop and mobile applications using only a browser. This release of APEX completes the vision of feature-rich applications using any local or remote data source. APEX 19.1 also introduces a number of exciting new features which dramatically simplify data loading as well as improve the overall development experience.
Some of the improvements in Oracle APEX 19.1 include:
The built-in declarative support for REST Enabled SQL and Web Sources has been extended to Form regions, allowing read and write access to remote data sources. With APEX 19.1, you can now declaratively create report, chart, calendar and form pages on REST Services, all with no code. This is an important step forward for APEX, as you can now bring the power of SQL to applications which interact with virtually any local or remote data source.
New Form Component
APEX 19.1 introduces a completely rearchitected form component, which not only supports forms on REST Services, but also forms on SQL queries and functions returning SQL queries. Additionally, all attributes associated with the data source of a form are consolidated on the form region itself, resulting in a much more intuitive development and maintenance experience.
APEX now supports easy data loading into Oracle Database for a variety of file formats, including Comma-separated Values (CSV), JSON, native Excel (XLSX) with multiple sheets, and XML. Via a simple drag and drop interface, developers can now easily transform their single-user desktop files into beautiful Oracle Database powered web applications. Additionally, APEX 19.1 introduces the APEX_DATA_PARSER package, which enables developers to easily add the same powerful file upload and data parsing capabilities into their own applications.
The development environment of APEX 19.1 can now render with a darker color scheme, which reduces eye strain and is especially helpful for developing late into the night.
JET Chart enhancements
APEX now includes declarative support for the JET Status Meter Gauge. Also, new declarative attributes have been added to JET Charts to support the styling of text on a chart, as well as declarative tooltip options for Gantt charts. The Oracle JET libraries have been updated to JET 6.1.0.
REST Enabled Database Objects
SQL Workshop has been enhanced to now support single-click REST-enablement of database tables, views and procedures. This will result in the creation of a REST API, provided by the natively integrated Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS).
Interactive Grid enhancements
A number of new declarative attributes have been added to Interactive Grids, including Select First Row, Toolbar Controls, Actions Menu options, and Column options. With no code, developers now have even greater control with this rich data management component.
As in every APEX release, a number of enhancements and bugs fixes have been made to the productivity and sample applications. Additionally, numerous bugs have been fixed in APEX 19.1, resulting in even higher quality and stability for APEX environments.
