Crisis Survival Guide of Oracle DBA by Emre Baransel
When a critical production database can't service to majority of its users we can call this a "crisis". These problems can show up in different forms like data corruptions, data loss arising from user fault, after change issues (upgrade, patch, migration etc.), hardware problems, load issues and more. It's crucial to follow right direction for the solution when "downtime" starts ticking. While supporting big customer systems for almost 10 years in Oracle ACS, i experienced these "crisis" at first hand and i prepared this presentation for Oracle DBAs to get ready for these unwanted but possible cases. I will start with general Crisis Management rules and cover a range of scenarios like RMAN restore/recovery, Data Guard failovers, Flashback features, database upgrades/migrations with spot-on hints and real-life lessons learned.

Oracle Database Online Data Reorganization and Redefinition benefits, use cases by Suraj Ramesh
As businesses become more web and e-commerce-enabled, high availability computing solutions are becoming increasingly important because of the extremely high cost of application downtime. According to a Gartner Group study, the cost of outages for corporations involved in e-commerce can easily reach millions of dollars per hour. Therefore, database availability and manageability have become increasingly important in many of today's mission-critical environments. One way to enhance availability and manageability is to allow users full access to the database during a data reorganization operation. Oracle's DB DBMS_REDEFINITION is a compelling package used to 'online redefine' tables. Online redefinition of a table means that changes (inserts/updates/deletes/merges) can be made to the table while modifications to the data are being made. Join this session to understand the key benefits of Online Data Reorganization and Redefinition.

Converged Database by Arvind Bhope Modern data driven applications are bringing in a lot more complexity with different data types like Relational,Document,Spatial,Graph, etc and workloads Transactions ,analytics, ML,IOT to name a few. This data and workload require different database algorithms to solve with unique development paradigms and the two possible data strategies are Single Purpose purpose built databases which are best of breed for individual data types and workload OR use a Converged database for all data types and workloads. Problems ? Once we have a single purpose individual db for Spatial,ML, Blockchain, JSON, Graph etc.. we are actually introducing a lot many variables to the ever changing components in existing infrastructure which inherently is increasing the complexity. Single purpose Database would eventually end up doing a lot of custom work, writing more code independently using individual Proprietary API's and transaction models. Propagating and transforming all these changes with fragmented data all over the place creates lot more complexity and there is definitely a need to integrate it with a lot of customization. This Integration is a job that never ends. The necessary features like security, availability, scalability are just very complex to achieve,as each of them has its own models to be built. Later, to propagate any of the smallest change and integrate its a huge activity. Availability, scalability, consistency,End to End security etc are very limited in their areas by weakest of their databases that are implemented. Combining all of them gives worst of weakness. These systems are JUST NO economies of scale. Solution: What if we say all the above challenges are addressed in Converged database. Oracle Converged Database is a data innovation platform ,an ecosystem which increases the strategic business value of data. Ensure a Successful Oracle Cloud Migration by Peter Earnshaw The move to enterprise applications such as Oracle Cloud can offer many benefits along with a myriad of challenges, many of which may be unknown until you are knee-deep into the project. Up to 80 percent of problems with enterprise systems are related to human error and unidentified technical issues. Before you get started, it is imperative to carefully plan and make sure you have the capability and visibility to measure user behaviour, workflows, interaction, adoption, and most importantly, how they can impact productivity and profitability. In this webinar we are going to answer 5 critical questions you should ask before embarking on your Oracle Cloud project: Where should we start? How do we mitigate risk? How do we know what processes and transactions need to be prioritized? How can we maximize adoption? How can we measure ROI? This webinar will give you some answers to these questions along with showing you the benchmark data needed to get you started on your journey.02 June 2021
Securing your mission critical systems running Oracle from cyber attacks by Trichy Premkumar Until recently, organizations have focused on trying to prevent cyberattacks, which come primarily from hacking and malware. However, the likelihood that all malware will be discovered before harm is done is slim, particularly for slow-moving and sophisticated attacks. This difficulty of detecting malware early gives hackers time to orchestrate attacks ranging from extortion to outright destruction of mission-critical systems. Such cyberattacks can cripple an organization, leading to revenue loss, negative publicity, and lasting customer distrust. In this session we will review how Oracle data protection can be simplified, secured and enhanced to include comprehensive cyber recovery protection.09 June 2021

Automate Database Provisioning for DevOps using Database-as-a-Service - Chetan Vithlani/Venkata Bandaru/Maniselvan Kannimuthuraj Often DBAs want to allow self-service access to certain database operations. By doing so, the DBAs can free-up their own time while enabling others to do their jobs faster. Self-service access (SSA) is enabled right from the Oracle Enterprise Manager. The Self-Service Portal allows users to create new service instances (Databases or Pluggable Databases) based on Service Template configured by SSA administrators. Additionally, Oracle Enterprise Manager Database as a Service Snap Clone is a ‘self-service’ solution for enabling rapid creation of space efficient clones for large, multi-terabyte databases. Snap Clone can improve the efficiency and agility of administrators and QA engineers while reducing storage-related CAPEX. Database as a Service Snap Clone allows administrators to create fully functional copies of databases using the copy-on-write (CoW) capabilities of the underlying storage layer. Users can request databases from the self-service console and have them provisioned within minutes instead of hours while keeping storage needs to a minimum. This Session will cover database automation for devops: 1) self-service users such as developers and QA can leverage DBaaS (Database-as-a-Service) to quickly provision databases 2) create storage efficient thin clones for development purposes, and 3) chargeback/show back of resources used at the OS and DB level to ensure that proper accounting is kept for resource usage in your private cloud.07 July 2021
Who Moved My Cheese? -- Where Do I Find The Best Oracle Development Tool? by Peter Koletzke Not that long ago it was so simple: if you were a developer who wanted to work with an Oracle development tool, you used Oracle Forms. Period. End of story. Now the number of Oracle development tools has grown to the point where it is natural to wonder which one to use. Each of Oracle's offerings is a solid choice so the only real answer to the question of "which one is best?" is a not so helpful, "It depends." This session provides some guidelines for determining which Oracle development tool is best for your situation among the large crowd of: Application Development Framework (ADF), ADF Essentials, Application Express (APEX), Mobile Application Framework (MAF), PL/SQL Web Toolkit, Visual Builder Studio (VBS), Mobile Application Accelerator (MAX), JavaScript Extension Toolkit (JET), and, of course, Oracle Forms. In addition, the session will explain the role played by Alta UI, Oracle UX, and Redwood in developing modern user interface applications with any tool.14 July 2021
Information Life Cycle Management : Manage Exponential Data Growth (Live Demo) by Chandan Tanwani The exponential increase of data volumes puts enterprise IT infrastructures under pressure in cost, performance, scalability, and manageability. The regulatory requirements are changing, like how and why data are retained. Many organizations are now required to maintain and control more information for a more extended period. Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is applying policies for the effective management of information throughout its useful life. Oracle's Advanced Compression and Data Partitioning help organizations to deploy ILM policy. The benefits include improving enterprise application's performance, reducing infrastructure cost, providing governance, risk, and compliance framework for enterprise data. In this session I will cover in-depth of advance compression and database performance benefits. I will also discuss Automatic Data Optimization and Heat Map to define policies, move data to different storage tires with Live Demo.21 July 2021
