Welcome to the QLD Branch of the Australian Oracle User Group.

AUSOUG Queensland Branch meets bi-monthly at least, to learn about technology best practices and also provide networking opportunities with our peers in the Oracle community. Presentation topics can come from any of the Oracle categories of Database, Middleware, Applications, Server and Storage, and Industries. Our aim is simply to provide quality presentations on topics of interest to our members.

Mixing it up

Presentation meetings are often held at Oracle House, Level 16, 340 Adelaide St | Brisbane,  between 12:00pm and 1:30pm, with a working lunch provided. It's a great opportunity to share ideas, do some networking in a relaxed environment, and also learn something.

We mix our meetings up with networking events, which may be drinks after work at a local hotel, or our annual Christmas function. These events are all about catching up with peers in a more social setting.

We also run special events including local half day seminars and workshops, as well as working together with our AUSOUG and Oracle partners to bring you content that is current and relevant to you.

Much noise has been made on the quick ROI from deploying greenfield systems to Oracle Cloud. Oracle's IaaS catalog stands up very well to competing vendor offerings, and Oracle's PaaS Cloud offers a comprehensive range of simple, robust, cost effective solutions across data management, application development, integration, management, content, analytics and security.

Sounds great, but the reality is that a large percentage of candidate migration projects to the Cloud are ones whose foundations remain firmly concreted into the ground. These are the long-running, on-premise applications, built on now-legacy environments but which are too scary to touch; and yet it is these that still cost so much to maintain where they sit.

You'd love to see these 'turkeys' soaring in those clouds, but it all seems too hard. Time for some flying lessons.

Lets pick on a couple of flightless birds and discuss whether lifting and shifting them to the Oracle Cloud is even possible; and how you might approach such an exercise - considering the technical and business impacts and benefits.

Want to see more happen in Queensland for the Oracle community?  If you have a topic you would like to present, or know of someone interested in presenting, just contact one of the committee members or conferencemanager@ausoug.org.au and we will add it to the list.

Alternatively, if you would like us to organize a presentation on a topic, contact us and we will work to make it happen.

If you are interested in becoming the QLD State Partner please contact Burke Scheld, AUSOUG General Manager conferencemanager@ausoug.org.au for all the details on a mutually beneficial Partnership arrangement.
