Tips for Maximizing DB Performance: Theory and Practice

Oracle Database 12c and Enterprise Manager 13c introduce new exciting capabilities that help improve DBA productivity, maximize performance while reducing management costs. This session covers the theory behind performance diagnosis and tuning and the new capabilities in the above products such as Hybrid Cloud Management, AWR Multitenant enhancements, AWR and SQL Tuning Advisor support for Active Data Guard (ADG), Perfhub Reports, Database Operations Monitoring, and more. This session also provides tips on when and how best to use the above features that will help DBA in his day-to-day tasks.

Pre-requisites: Very good working knowledge of Oracle Database, especially with event infrastructure and database optimizer.

Presentation Objectives:  Understand how to diagnose performance problems and which tools/solutions to use.

Speaker Details

Mughees Minhas is responsible for all aspects of product management relating to database, systems and quality management solutions at Oracle Corporation. He has more than 20 years of experience working with Oracle products with special interests in the areas of application testing and quality, performance diagnostics and tuning, and SQL optimization. Mughees is a frequent speaker at various Oracle forums and has authored several papers on the internal workings and usage best practices of a wide variety of Oracle technologies. Mughees holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Washington University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He is currently Vice President of Product Management in Oracle’s Server Technologies division.
